I thought it high time I posted something a little different on my news feed and this commission was just the thing – The Grove Park Primary School production of Oliver!
One of my valued new clients this year is Grove Park Primary School in Chiswick. They approached me earlier in the year to photograph their children’s portraits and class group photographs. Their head teacher then asked if I would be able to photograph the school’s production which this year was to be Oliver!
One of the reasons I have always enjoyed photography is because it throws in different challenges every day. Stage photography throws in many challenges because the light constantly changes, subjects can be moving quickly and the light can be quite dim, of course flash photography is never allowed. All this means a fair amount of technical confidence is needed.
For the production I positioned myself in the left wing of the stage were I could see the entire stage without moving, getting in the way, or blocking parents views! Fortunately my Leica M9-P is small, discreet and almost silent in operation, it’s lenses are also small but extremely fast, making it the ideal camera for this type of commission. For the technically minded The M9-P is the latest rangefinder camera from Leica’s fine M series which dates back to the mid 1950’s. It is digital but on the outside looks, feels and works exactly as it’s older film versions, intact any Leica lens dating back to the mid 1950’s will work just fine on it!
